Sydney Map: Attractions, Tours and Neighbourhoods

Sydney is a harbour city with water at the centre of the picture rather than at the edge of it. The CBD sits on the south side of the harbour, the Harbour Bridge crosses to the north shore, and the Opera House marks the point where the city meets the water. The eastern beaches run out toward Bondi, the inner west follows the Parramatta River, and the Blue Mountains sit far enough west that they are a day trip rather than an afternoon stroll. This page puts every place on the site in one picture so you can group your days by geography instead of by list order.

Start here if you are still deciding where to stay. The embed below is the ordinary interactive map, useful for judging a hotel against a ferry wharf or a metro station, or working out whether two stops are genuinely walkable. Harbour distances flatter themselves on paper: Circular Quay to the Opera House is a short stroll, while a short hop across the water can mean a long walk around the shoreline.

Every point on this map is a geocoded coordinate plotted at true scale, with the harbour, the headlands, the street grid and the park boundaries underneath it, so the distance you read between two places is the distance you will actually walk. The chips dim the groups you are not looking at rather than deleting them, because a map that hides the beaches while you sort by tours is no longer telling you where anything sits. Coastline, water, roads and park geometry come from OpenStreetMap contributors, and the place positions are OpenStreetMap's own surveyed coordinates. Where two places sit almost on top of each other, the label is nudged clear of its neighbour and the pin itself never moves, so what you see is where the place is, not where it happens to fit tidily.
